Volkswagen GTI iPhone App Success Story

Back in October 2009 Volkswagen’s made the brave move to launch an iPhone only campaign to promote their new GTI. No banner ads, no print media and no TVC’s you get the idea. Seems the risky move has paid off, with over 4 million downloads of the app, and an 80% increase in leads, test drives and quote requests.

Its great to see a digital campaign like this succeed beyond most people expectations. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of this in the future. Historically ad agencies would spend the majority of media on TV, with more and more compelling success stories out there– hopefully we will see a shift in mindset (and budget) to the online and mobile space.
